After a season filled with standout performances, emotional wins, and hard-fought battles, we sat down with Milica Sirovina, Bosnian national team player and one of the Croatian Premier League’s most dynamic and determined talents, to talk about her reflections on the past season and her ambitions for what’s next. Known for her leadership on the court and relentless work ethic, Milica shares insights into the highs, the challenges, and what continues to fuel her passion moving forward.
DBA: First off, when you look back at this past season, what moment do you think you’ll remember most vividly?
Milica: The tough training sessions, and the amazing people and teammates I met along the way.
DBA: From your perspective, how did you evolve as a player this year: mentally, physically, or tactically?
Milica: It was mentally very demanding since this was my first professional contract. I became a lot stronger because of some unexpected situations. Now, I feel ready for anything. I also realized how important recovery is just as much as training. Nutrition matters a lot, and I always make sure to get enough sleep. I also learned that not everything depends on me. As a player, I now understand exactly where I stand and what I need to work on.
DBA: Was there a turning point during the season that really shifted things for you or the team?
Milica: Yes, we had a tough stretch, many players were injured. With six games left, our coach wanted to resign. He actually did but then decided to stay. There were some moments of instability, and we had to fight hard just to stay in the league. By the end, we were all just counting the days until it was over.
DBA: You’ve become such a key part of your team’s identity. How would you describe the bond you’ve built with your teammates this year?
Milica: As a young player, it was crucial for me to get playing time, and I had that. I also had the freedom to play my game. Over time, the girls saw how much I brought to the team and got used to my style. The more time we spent together, the more we understood how each of us contributed to the team.
DBA: In terms of your individual game, what aspects do you feel improved the most over the course of the season?
Milica: Everything is a work in progress, there’s always more to improve.
DBA: Tell us your impressions about the Croatian Premier League. What stood out to you in terms of competition, intensity, or overall experience?
Milica: It’s much stronger than the league I played in last year. Some teams have very experienced and skilled players. Most of the teams rely on 1v1 play or creating from screens. Maybe only two or three teams really focus on team play.
DBA: Looking back, is there a specific performance or game where you felt everything just clicked for you personally?
Milica: Yes, there was one game where I scored everything and locked in defensively. But that didn’t come out of nowhere. I had trained really hard. It was well earned.
DBA: Heading into the off-season, what’s your focus, whether it’s recovery, skill development, or something else?
Milica: The summer is the most important time to work on technical skills and physical exercises that we can’t fully focus on during the season.
DBA: What are your biggest hopes or expectations for next season?
Milica: First and foremost, to stay healthy. I want to have consistent playing time, and most importantly, to work with a coach who believes in me and wants to help me grow and improve my weaknesses.
DBA: And finally, what would you like to say to the fans who supported you through the highs and lows of this year?
Milica: Thank you for everything! I’ll be working hard and recovering this summer. Stay with me, next season will be a spectacle!
